I am not a skinny man. There are lots of reasons for this, and one of the biggest is beef. One of the others is bourbon. I have had a great deal of both. I have now had hamburgers on four and a half continents (depending on how you count Central America). So, when I say this next bit it is out of considerable experience: Not only does Hubcap Grill have the best hamburger in Galveston, it is the best hamburger I have ever had. They also have an impressive bourbon selection, and I have already demanded that my family return when we are in Galveston this Summer for our cruise.Continue reading “Best hamburger in Galveston”

Galveston is my favorite city to cruise from. There is so much to do, and the city itself becomes a major part of the vacation. Beyond that, it is always a good idea to get to town at least one day before a cruise. You don’t want to miss the ship because your plane was late. We usually drive to Galveston, and that means I need a place to park my car. Last month, however, I flew to IAH, got a car service from the airport to Galveston, and was in town without a car. That meant I had to look up hotels within walking distance. Happily, there were two excellent options. I took video of the walk between each of them and the cruise pier.Continue reading “Hotels within walking distance of the Galveston cruise pier”
I love to eat on a cruise. I always tell myself I am going to eat healthy, too. Here is the thing- that is completely possible. There are plenty of great choices for healthy eating. It just never works out that way because, er, well, there are a lot of choices. I like them all. Unfortunately, on my cruise last month I was able to keep my healthy eating options at breakfast. Carnival Dream breakfast options are good, but they aren’t great. That helped a lot with the willpower.Continue reading “Carnival Dream breakfast options”
Some folks cruise by booking the smallest cabin they can. I get that. It is cheaper, and lots of folks want to spend time out on deck anyway. I am a little bit different. I like spending quiet time in my room, and I want extra space to spread out. For example, we sailed in the Villa Suite on the Liberty of the Seas this Summer. Suite perks also add a nice touch to the vacation. Last month, I sailed in a Carnival Dream Ocean Suite. It was a great space, and I would like to take a minute to show you what to expect.Continue reading “Carnival Dream Ocean Suite”
